Daniel Burkholder's residency is complete! Well, it actually finished up on Sunday but I haven't had a chance to blog since then. =P
I really enjoy dancing the piece he set on us. He didn't mention its title to us so maybe he's working on developing an appropriate one. Like I said in my previous post, it deals with the concept of home. The close-to-15-minute long piece is a journey of being home, choosing to leave home, and arriving somewhere else to create your new home. We use a tree and a long rope to signify the transfer of our home, and the ties of our community that can keep us from leaving. The piece is meaningful and touching and can really evoke powerful emotions while performing.
Coming up next week we have an audition for our 3rd of 4 guest artist pieces for our repertoire for the year. Laurie Eisenhower of Eisenhower Dance Ensemble based in Detroit will be coming next Wednesday! Some of her dancers are coming down Wednesday to audition us during the advanced modern class (it will be so weird wearing a number to class...) and picking 5-6 dancers to use in her piece. Watching some excerpts from her choreography on YouTube is inspiring me to step up my game technically! Her style looks like it's so fulfilling and satisfying and is captivating to watch. I suggest it. It's the real deal.
So excited the weekend is here! Unfortunately I'll be using most of it studying in the library. This week has been an open house at our local yoga/pilates studio, The Center, with free classes all week so I'm planning on taking one tomorrow morning. Followed by a haircut. :)
