Movmnt Magazine brings Dance and Pop Culture Together as a lifestyle. Co-founded by SYTYCD Alumni Danny Tidwell and Publisher David Benaym.

Pop culture is part of our heritage. The challenge is to raise the stakes and add to its legacy instead of recycling it. movmnt aspires to bridge the gap between pop culture and today’s real talent, and recognize artists over fame junkies. We aim to bring fashion, dance, and pop culture together as a lifestyle.

I just returned from American Dance Festival (ADF), which is quite possibly the best dance festival in the United States, and was able to take a few classes from some of my favorite old teachers and choreographers. Here is a video of Mark Haim, who is a choreographer now based in Seattle and has been a member of ADF's faculty since 1993, teaching JaQuel Knight's choreography of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" to a huge class of dancers. I think it's the one and only time to see a room of over 50 dancers all workin' it like Beyonce! Mark performed "Single Ladies" at the faculty concert with four back-up dancers (two of which were men). It was a sneak performance, as he had originally intended on dancing a piece to Mozart. He surprised the audience right before his performance and announced that he would be performing a piece in honor of Bob Fosse and JaQuel Knight. All I can say is get it JaQuel! And congratulations for making it to pop icon status.

** Just as a side note, Ebony Williams (dancer on the left of this picture I took at one of their rehearsals in Ailey Studios), who was one of the original "Single Ladies" performed at ADF just a week before Mark's show with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet Company.
