Spring semester at JMU always flies by and is jam packed with dancing! This past weekend the VRDC began their 5-week tour by performing in the Z Mullins Dance Company Symposium and Concert on Saturday at St. Catherine's School in Richmond, VA. This concert brought together ZMDC, VRDC, UVA's dance minor program, VCU's resident professional company Amaranth, and Radford's resident professional company danah bellah DanceWorks. It was a wonderfully diverse concert and it was great to see lots of JMU alumni and catch up! Collaborative concerts are an amazing networking tool and are so much fun to be a part of.
This weekend on Friday March 5th VRDC will be performing in the McGuffey Arts Center in Charlottesville, VA as a part of their First Friday Series. We will be performing 2 concerts back to back with a talk back session after each.
JMU's spring break is the following week and on Friday, March 19th VRDC and other selected dance majors will be traveling to Athens, Ohio to take classes and perform at the American College Dance Festival Association Conference at Ohio University. Two of our pieces are being performed and will be adjudicated with a gala performance at the end of the weekend. One or both of JMU's pieces have been selected to perform in this gala the past 2 years. It would be great to make it 3!!!
The following weekend is our Contemporary Dance Ensemble concert at JMU - March 25-27. Faye Driscoll's work, "Wow Mom, Wow" that I wrote of previously will be performed along with other faculty and student works.
And then finally, on April 2nd & 3rd, VRDC will be closing out our spring tour at the Brooklyn Arts Exchange in New York by performing Friday and Saturday night.
Such a busy busy time and I wish I didn't have homework and tests in other classes that I needed to worry about! If I could just work and dance all the time I'd be a happy camper...speaking of which, I was just offered a production internship at the American Dance Festival for this summer!!! SO PUMPED. I get to help put on all performances for all the major companies that come in. Hoping and expecting to make some major connections! I'm happy to have one small aspect of my future after college graduation mapped out. As far as the rest goes, I guess I need to start applying for some jobs in Washington DC! Anybody know of any amazing internship or job opportunities? I've been researching a lot but I'm sure there's so much out there that I haven't come across yet!
Have a great day, and keep on dancin' :)
